A BIT OF ROUGH WOULD BE NICE

A few weeks earlier, we’d paddled around Bardsey Island. It’s an area where good tidal planning is important even in calm weather. Enjoying a glassy sea, something of a novelty in Bardsey Sound, by the time we were homeward bound, I think we’d all had a little too much of a good thing. ‘A bit of rough would be nice…’ said someone before the end.

Predictably, a 3m plus swell was running on our next windswept visit to Wales, with huge breakers burying the rocky headlands beyond our chosen bay.

Anything beyond was very obviously out of the question. But we had a new kayak or two from the Rockpool fleet to test, courtesy of Mike Webb. And it might just have been one of the best days messing about on the water in small boats we ever had.
