Blà Bheinn TRAVERSE
If the traverse of Clach Glas and Blà Bheinn is one of the best mountaineering days to be had in Scotland, the traverse of Blà Bheinn alone is not without merit, especially for the runner happy to complete the remaining miles to Elgol on the coastal path.
Approaching the minor top, An Stac.
Like all coastal paths, it is less than flat and in common with the hills around, is not lacking in a little exposure - in places, a stumble would likely prove to be a brief and terminal affair. That said, the difficulties throughout are related more to the gradient than and technically challenging ground, though a short rock step approaching the South summit adds interest. (It is given Grade 2 in various guide books but I would suggest it is Grade 1 at most and not exposed, with an obvious and easier alternative.)
From the South summit, it is a long descent to sea level and on reaching Camasunary Bay, the day is only half done. Thankfully, it is necessary to pause every so often to appreciate the view that is unfolding behind, as summit after summit beyond Gars-Bheinn is revealed to the north.
