BEL OISEAU

Joining Bel Oiseau and Fontanabran is a ridge that reminded me of the Aonach Eagach, its narrow crest twisting in switchback back turns high above the Émosson Dam. With the temperature approaching 36°C, the ascent from Vallorcine was thirsty work, and the continuation to Bel Oiseau debilitating. Short of water, I was happy to descend directly, though it is a route I will return for - the airy ridge and quiet summits standing in stark contrast to the crowds below.
